FAQs

Why Should I Hire Hamilton String Quartet?

HSQ is a professional orchestra chamber group, providing exceptional live music.  Our members have over 65 years of experience combined and have performed worldwide.  Nothing can match the sound and feel of live music.

What Set Up do You Require?

We require a space of approximately 8’ x 8’. This enables us to provide you with the best possible performance. The space also needs to be free of any pedestrian traffic. We need four sturdy chairs without arms or wheels. We typically do not need amplification; if amplification is determined to be necessary before the event (such as at the rehearsal), the client will be responsible for providing. If the Hamilton String Quartet provides needed amplification, an additional fee will be added. We will provide our own music stands and lights as needed.

Will You Play Outdoors?

We love to play indoors and outdoors, but cannot perform in extreme temperatures (below 45F or above 90F). Our instruments cannot be in rain, snow, extreme wind or mist. For outdoor weddings, we also require reasonable protection from direct sunlight. This can include a full shaded area (please check at the correct time of day), canopy, or open-sided tent. We reserve the right to cancel due to weather, if no suitable indoor location or cover/protection is provided.

How Far Will You Travel?

Travel within the Indianapolis Metropolitan area is included. We are happy to accommodate events outside of the area. Extra fees may apply for performances further than a 45-minute drive from Central Indianapolis.

Will You Attend Our Rehearsal?

A member of the Hamilton String Quartet will attend the Wedding Rehearsal on the day prior to the event. This is recommended for purposes of determining space, timing, and other considerations to help make your event perfect. Rehearsal attendance is a flat $50.00, regardless of time.

How Do I Choose Music?

A member of HSQ would be happy to help with music selection!  You can use our repertoire list and YouTube to check out sounds and styles.  If you need more guidance or direction, let us know!

What Is Your Repertoire?

There is a repertoire list on our website. Our repertoire is constantly expanding, so please reach out with questions or for the most up-to-date list.

What If I Want A Piece That Isn’t On Your List? Do You Take Requests?

Yes!  We are absolutely willing to play something you request.  We will make every attempt to find the music.  If we cannot find an arrangement, our violist is an arranger and can take a look.  Pricing for requests varies, but usually ranges in the $10-$50 range.

How Long Will You Play?

Total time performed is included in the contract provided and agreed upon in advance. For performances lasting longer than two hours, a break will be provided. We typically will take a 15-minute break for every two hours of performance time. This break can be coordinated to your event’s itinerary to allow for speeches, presentations, or other moments where no music is needed. No break is needed for wedding ceremonies, and we will remain in place throughout your entire ceremony.

Do You Have a Dress Code?

Our standard concert attire is semiformal all black. If you prefer a different color or accent color, please let us know.

Can I Make Changes to My Event?

Any changes in date, time, or event location should be communicated as soon as determined. Hamilton String Quartet will make every attempt to accommodate such changes, provided we are available. If the changes are made prior to two weeks before the original event date, and the Hamilton String Quartet is unable to accommodate, paid fees will be reimbursed to you. If changes are made within two weeks of the original event date, and the Hamilton String Quartet is unable to accommodate, any paid fees will not be refunded.

What is Your Cancellation Policy?

We require a minimum of two weeks’ notice of cancellation. If notified before the two-week mark, paid fees will be reimbursed to you. Failure to notify of cancellation prior to two weeks will result in forfeiture of fees paid.

Do I Need the Full Quartet?

We strongly recommend the full quartet, but we do have options for trio and duet.  Please know that our repertoire is much more limited for the smaller groups; most pieces are written for quartet, and melodic and harmonic lines would be lost without. The full quartet is also vastly preferred for outdoor venues.

Can I Hear You Play Before I Book You?

Yes!  Check our About Us page for demo recordings.  Contact us if you wish to hear more.

Do We Need To Meet In Person?

Not necessarily.  Our experienced musicians have performed many events, and understand that time is valuable.  In this day and age, most of the planning can be done via email, and many clients are just fine with that.  If you prefer to meet in person, that can certainly be arranged.

How Much Time Should Be Allocated for My Event?

That depends.  Most weddings require about an hour, which is our standard service time.  Longer weddings, (such as a full Catholic mass) may require more time.  Other events (parties, etc) are based on your contracted time.  Fees are based on expected length of time.

How Can I Reserve You and Make Payments?

A non-refundable deposit of $100.00 must accompany this contract in order to secure your date. Final payment may be completed in advance of the event date, or on the event date itself. Failure to remit total payment on event date will result in a $50.00 late fee. We will accept cash, check (payable to Johanna Kitchell) or e-transfer via Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App.

Ok, I’m Interested!  How Do I Reserve My Event?

As soon as you know your date, let us know!  You can email us directly using the Contact Us link at the top of this page. We will get you on the calendar and begin our discussions.  A deposit will secure your date.
